Rainy days are here again!
Get ready with your raincoats and umbrella, the rainy season is here. Wearing plastic boots has become fashionable not only for the old people and market vendors but as well as some teenagers showing off their pricey colorful boots. Classes has been suspended several times since the start of the school year due to heavy rains and severe flooding in some areas.
Rainy days reminded me so much of my happy childhood days. When I was a kid, I love it when it rains because of these:
- No classes. We don't have to wake up early just to go to school. Suspension of classes were announced much earlier.
- No school work assignments.
- We were allowed to play in the rain. We play boat race, we cut out our old slippers into a small boat complete with flag and we race it into the stream of water across our house. During my time, there were no clogged drainage and the streets are clean. Leptospirosis was never heard of during those times.
- We have "ginataan" for merienda. If you grew up in the Philippines, this is one comfort food that you will surely miss eating during cold rainy days.
ginataan - dessert made with thick coconut milk, tubers, tapioca pearls and sago (ask.com) |
- Playing hide and seek inside the house. My mom usually don't allow us to play inside our house because of the mess we create but rainy days is an exception. Since there's always brown-outs/blackouts during this time, I enjoyed playing this game with my siblings.
- I can stay up late, if the classes are still suspended for next day.
Hi Imee!
ReplyDeleteSo true, rain is a bit more annoying now that I'm older :( I do still love falling to sleep to the sound of it raining though!
It's nice to tuck yourself under the sheets when it rains.
DeleteYour post brings back my childhood memories. Rainy season was fun at that time. We play in the rain and in the flood. You're right, school will be closed and used as shelters for flood victims. But one thing I really hate is the stinky smell after the flood is over.
ReplyDeleteyes, with all the trash piled up.

DeleteWow, love your blog post. It reminds me when I was young.
ReplyDeleteI guess the rain when you are young is different when you grow old, literally I mean its different. RAins have grown stronger now and brings more water than it was before. Sometimes there is no rain at all. Thanks, just dropping my crazy comments
So many people I know hate the rain, but I love it. It's so relaxing listening to it and smelling it. As a child, I was allowed to play in the rain, I would make cubby houses under the trees and take shelter when it rained, I thought it was so cool. I remember when my school was flooded too and we had to go home early, that was the best day! It's not rain season in Queensland now, but come summer I love it.
ReplyDeleteI like rainy. i think , it's so nice.. I do like it :D
ReplyDeleteYour rainy days as a child were much more fun then mine were (or how I remember them). I hear you with rainy days as an adult, much different. Thanks for linking up to flashback Friday blogshare.
